The immediate past Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Bayelsa state, Dr. Iti Orugbani, along with his political associates, hosted dignitaries from within and outside the state for a thanksgiving reception in Yenagoa, the state capital on Sunday.

The event was a heartfelt expression of gratitude to the Almighty God for the multitude of blessing bestowed upon him during his four-year tenure as commissioner, under the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri.

Dr. Orugbani, while addressing journalists, emphasized the significance of the Special Thanksgiving Service/reception and highlighted the governor’s victory and successful inauguration for a second term despite adversities faced by the People’s Democratic Party, particularly in Opu-Nembe, during the recent Governorship Election in the state.

Prior to the November 11 governorship election, Dr. Orugbani explained that the main opposition party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), attempted to disenfranchise the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Opu-Nembe by inviting him and Chief Hon Kuroghofa Walter Benwari to Abuja, just three days before the election.

He extended prayers for Governor Douye Diri and his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo for a successful tenure, and expressed hopes that the prosperity government would bring peace, love, prosperity, and desired development to the people of Bayelsa State.

Also speaking, a former commissioner of Water Resources in the state, Chief Hon Kuroghofa Walter-Benwari, also commended Dr. Orugbani for convening the people of Opu-Nembe to express gratitude for his successful four-year tenure despite challenges faced in the community.

Benwari, who had served as the executive chairman of Nembe Local Government Area, took the opportunity to appreciate Governor Douye Diri for his support towards the People’s Democratic Party family in Opu-Nembe despite the challenges preceding the November 11, 2023 governorship election.

Our correspondent reports that the reception which held at the new commissioners quarters was graced by; Barrister Ezekiel Samuel Teigbenyu -Ikoli, Chief D I Oriango Oruwari, former chairman of Opu-Nembe council of Chiefs, Chief Prof D.K. Derri, Chief Dr Markson Amaegbe- Tamuno.

Other are; Hon Barrister Ayobegha James, Chief Edward Irigha Brigidi, Hon Dogiye Sylva, the immediate past chairman of Nembe local government area, Hon Alalibo West, among others.
