The Bursar of the Niger Delta University (NDU), Mr. Bolou Yalah, has been conferred with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree, alongside several other distinguished scholars, during the university’s combined convocation ceremony held on Friday, May 16, 2025, at the main campus in Amassoma, Bayelsa State.

Mr. Yalah’s doctoral research focused on Public Financial Management and Accountability in Tertiary Institutions: A Case Study of Niger Delta University. His work critically examined the financial practices within public universities in Nigeria, with a particular emphasis on transparency, budget implementation, and resource utilization. The study provided strategic frameworks for improving financial efficiency and promoting institutional integrity, especially in the face of dwindling public funding for education.

His research has been lauded for its practical relevance and academic rigor, offering policy recommendations that could reshape administrative operations across Nigerian universities.

In his remarks after receiving the award, Dr. Yalah expressed gratitude to God, his family, and the university’s academic staff for their support throughout his academic journey. He described the PhD as a “milestone achievement,” and pledged to continue contributing to institutional development through sound financial governance.

The convocation ceremony saw the graduation of over 8,000 students across various levels—first degree, postgraduate diploma, master’s, and doctorate. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Allen Agih, praised the graduands for their resilience and charged them to be worthy ambassadors of the institution.

Dr. Yalah’s achievement has been widely celebrated by staff and students alike, marking a moment of pride for the university’s administrative leadership and highlighting the role of continuous learning in public service.
