Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State, led by Governor Douye Diri, on Tuesday unanimously endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement was reached at a special stakeholders’ meeting convened by Governor Diri at the Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall, Yenagoa. The motion for the endorsement was moved by the Senator representing Bayelsa Central, Dr. Konbowei Benson, and seconded by former Speaker of the State House of Assembly and ex-Deputy Governor, Peremobowei Ebebi.

Among those in attendance were the Chairman of the APC Caretaker Committee in the state, Dr. Dennis Otiotio; the Senator representing Bayelsa East, Chief Benson Agadaga; the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri; the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku; the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority, Prince Ebitimi Amgbare; and the South-South Ex-officio member of the APC National Working Committee, Hon. Godbless Diriware.

The meeting marked the first expanded stakeholders’ gathering convened by Governor Diri since he formally assumed leadership of the party in the state in October 2025.

Addressing party leaders and members, Governor Diri expressed satisfaction that the Bayelsa APC had resolved to work as one united family to ensure President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. He urged members to embrace forgiveness, humility and internal cohesion, warning against bitterness and divisive politics that could undermine peace and development in the state. The governor also called for restraint among party members nursing political ambitions, advising them to put such aspirations on hold for now in the collective interest of the party.

“Here we are today as one big APC family,” Diri said. “I appreciate the old members of the party for the warm reception accorded me and others who joined from the Peoples Democratic Party. Political parties are vehicles for development. Let us truly be progressives. For now, our priority is to ensure that President Tinubu returns for a second term. Power comes from God.” In his remarks, Senator Lokpobiri said the Bayelsa APC was now united around a single objective—to deliver the party at all levels in the 2027 elections.

Similarly, the Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere; former APC governorship candidate, David Lyon; and Prince Ebitimi Amgbare commended Governor Diri for what they described as his inclusive and mature leadership style, expressing confidence that it would strengthen the party’s fortunes. The APC Caretaker Committee Chairman, Dr. Dennis Otiotio, lauded the governor for bringing together all factions of the party’s leadership after years of internal fragmentation. He said the meeting also served to mobilise members for the ongoing electronic membership registration exercise aimed at capturing genuine party members.

The meeting observed a minute’s silence in honour of former Senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District in the Fifth National Assembly, Senator John Brambaifa, who died on Saturday, January 3, 2026, in Abuja.
