It was a moment of solemn solitudes and tears as family members, friends and colleagues joined the Niger Delta Television ,NDTv Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Bayelsa State Council to bid there departed colleague, Mr David Amabra farewell during a special Tributes/ Candle night session held at the Ernest Ikoli Media Complex, Azikoro road, Yenagoa.
The solemn session started with a candle procession from the Ekeki Motor Park, Yenagoa to the Media Complex, Azikoro road with over 100 hundred persons dressed in black attire to pay last respect to the late iconic presenter and Broadcaster, David Amabra.
General Manager, NDTv,Fred Fabor and his Radio Bayelsa and New waves Counterparts: Terrence Ikisa, Preye Wariowei described the deceased as a man who contributed his best to the development of the pen profession in the state, Fred Fabor said: “David Amabra’s death is like a dream I never think was true till this moment, we were very close, his advice and genuine concerns to raise the bar of broadcast was second to none, he gave us his best, and the world was yet to tap from the knowledge he had in excess, we will miss him dearly”.
Terrence Ikisa in his tribute described the late David as a thorough breed broadcaster who was his colleague while in Radio” David was loved by both men and the girls, he was an exceptional announcer, clean in and out that was passionate with his job”
In his remarks, the GM New waves noted that he described David as still growing in height each time they met, a conversation that makes both of them to laugh and chat as friends but was shocked that such an iconic personality full of life will be cut short at his prime by 41 years, he noted that the management and Staff commesorate with the immediate family, NDTv and the Bayelsa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ in particular for this great loss.
Former GM, New waves Newspaper and now Technical Adviser to Governor Douye Diri on Media Relations, Mr. Charles Tambo, Retired Director of the ministry of information, orientation and strategy, Mr Chris Odi,Mrs. Wonifiri Winifred Igiri, Dr. Barakabo Ebi,( David’s Elder Brother),Janet Twommote( Chairman, NDTv Chapel of the NUJ), Comr. Samuel Numonengi, Chairman, NUJ Bayelsa State Council and other guests gave special tributes during the event.
The guest preacher Rev. Siebinimo-owei Appah admonished those present at the event to hold on to God as he was the only source of life. He said there was need to take stock of one’s life in every day of the year to make deliberate decision to “draw closer to God Almighty as we are only a shadow on the suffice of the earth as visitors”
Prayers were offered to the Amabra’s family, NDTv, NUJ and Bayelsa State to take solace for this irreplaceable loss of David Amabra.
The event featured special rendition of hymns, solemn walk/ candle light procession,sermon and prayers.
