CLO, Bayelsans want L.G autonomy, lament non conduct of LG polls
The Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) and some concerned Bayelsans are calling on the state Hous of e Assembly to pass the Local Government autonomy in concourance withtheNationalAssembly. .
They also want the state governor to conduct Local Government election to usher in democratically elected officials of the LGAs.
A member of the CLO comrade Davis West who was a guest of view-point a Silver Bird Rhythm FM 94.7 programme, which was monitored by one of our correspondents in Yenagoa, decried the non-conduct of Local Government election by the Senator Douye Diri led administration.
He is of the opinion that the near lack of development in the Local Government Areas is as result of the unconstitutional control of the council by the governor.
Comrade David West then called on the people to vote against those in the assembly who are against the autonomy of the LGAs, adding that their actions amount to betrayed of peoples trust.
Callers who phoned into the programme were unanimous in their opithat’s that the Bayelsa state Independent National Electoral Commission (BYSIEC) should conduct election into the councils stressing that it is unconstitutional to operate the councils without elected officials.
They also decried the non-payment of pensions and gratitude to retirees of the councils.
