Police corporal shot dead in Bank premises in Bayelsa, rifle stolen

A Mobile Police Corporal was on Wednesday shot dead at the premises of Globus Bank along the D.S.P Alameisegha road in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

The service rifle of the deceased policeman ws also stolen by his assailant.

It was gathered that the suspected cop killer, was last week introduced to officials of the bank by the deceased as his kinsman and identified as David.

But investigations showed that the deceased policeman is from Nembe community while the suspected killer is from Liama in Brass local government area of the State

Sources close to the Bank told newsmen that the suspected killer had been staying at the premises of the bank where the policeman was detailed.

“The incident happened round noon on Wednesday when they were both about to take lunch. While the Mobile Policeman left his rifle on the bench and was washing the spoons needed for the meal, the killer picked up the rifle and shot him at close range in the back.”

He was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre where he was confirmed dead the next day.

Already, the operatives of the Operation Puff Adder led by the Commanding officer, Chris Nwaogbo are investigating and making efforts to recover the missing riffle.

The State Police Command Spokesman, Asinim Butswat in his reactions said

“On 29 December 2022, a policeman Cpl Bob on duty at a Bank in yenagoa strayed from his duty post and was attacked by someone he was having a conversation with outside the banking premises. The identity of the suspect is known and investigation is underway to arrest him.”
