Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigerian government has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the holistic transformation of the country’s energy sector, emphasizing the balance between energy security and sustainability.
Speaking at the inaugural dinner of the 8th Nigeria International Energy Summit, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri, commended the Independent Petroleum Producers Group (IPPG) for hosting the prestigious event. The dinner brought together industry leaders, diplomats, and key stakeholders from around the world.
In his remarks, Lokpobiri highlighted Nigeria’s vast oil and gas reserves, describing the country as open for business. He assured investors that while global discourse on energy transition continues, Nigeria remains committed to a pragmatic approach.
“Nigeria will not prematurely abandon fossil fuels. Our priority is to address energy poverty while advancing sustainable solutions,” he stated.
The minister further emphasized the country’s efforts toward cleaner and greener energy exploration. He cited the Climate Change Act and the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) as key frameworks that have created an enabling environment for investment in the sector.
“With these robust legal frameworks in place, I urge investors to seize the opportunity and tap into Nigeria’s energy market, which serves not only the nation but also the wider West African region and beyond,” he said.
