A prominent member of the Rivers State Elders and Leaders Council and pioneer spokesman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe, has described Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s recent visit to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as a deliberate and commendable sacrifice aimed at fostering peace in the state.

Reacting to the highly publicized meeting between the two political leaders, Chief Sara-Igbe noted that Governor Fubara has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to peace and stability in Rivers State, even in the face of mounting political tension and personal attacks. He contrasted this with what he termed the “combative posture” often exhibited by Wike, the immediate past governor of the state.

“That discussion is not for public consumption, except the FCT Minister wants to make it public,” Sara-Igbe remarked. “At the end of the day, we’ll hear the result.”

While details of the closed-door meeting have not been officially disclosed, political observers suggest the move may be part of ongoing reconciliatory efforts aimed at resolving the lingering political crisis between both camps since Fubara assumed office.

Sara-Igbe praised the governor’s decision, saying it underscores the depth of Fubara’s maturity and his willingness to put the interests of the people above political rivalry.

“In every conflict, someone must be willing to make sacrifices for peace to prevail,” he said. “Governor Fubara’s gesture is a bold step towards reconciliation, and we hope it yields positive results for the good of Rivers State.”

The visit, which comes amidst internal political wrangling in the state, has sparked reactions across political circles, with many seeing it as a potential turning point in the ongoing standoff between the governor and his predecessor.

Stakeholders within and outside the state have urged both parties to prioritize dialogue and mutual respect in the interest of the state’s socio-political stability and economic progress.
