The Bayelsa State Police Command has intensified its Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) across the state ahead of the yuletide season, as part of efforts to ensure public safety and crime prevention.

In a statement signed by DSP Musa Mohammed, Police Public Relations Officer, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, the Command said the campaign was designed to sensitise residents on the dangers of crime and social vices, while promoting community policing, social harmony and peaceful coexistence during and after the festive period.

According to the statement, officers of the Command have embarked on extensive outreach programmes, visiting schools, religious centres, marketplaces and motor parks to engage residents and stakeholders on moral values, civic responsibility and the need for heightened vigilance.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Alonyenu Francis Idu, commended Bayelsans for their cooperation and law-abiding conduct, assuring them of the Command’s readiness to provide adequate security and guarantee a safe, peaceful and crime-free Christmas and New Year celebration across the state.
He urged parents and guardians to closely monitor their wards, discourage involvement in cult-related and other criminal activities, and promptly report any suspicious persons, movements or activities to the nearest police station or the Command Control Room.

Members of the public were advised to contact the police through the following numbers: 07034578208 or 09167322691, with the reminder that security is a collective responsibility.

“If you see something, say something,” the Commissioner stressed.
