Uganda Cranes Boycott Training Over Unpaid Allowances Ahead of AFCON Qualifiers
Players of the Uganda Cranes on Saturday boycotted a training session in Morocco over unpaid allowances, dealing a setback to the team’s preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Reports indicate that several members of the squad refused to take part in the session, citing delays in the payment of their entitlements. The players are also said to be seeking clarification on the exact allowances due to them during the camping period ahead of the tournament.
The development comes just days before Uganda open their Group C campaign against Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles in Fès on Tuesday.
Uganda face a demanding task in the group, which also includes three-time African champions Super Eagles and East African rivals Taifa Stars.
The protest has sparked widespread reaction, with reports and social media posts highlighting the disruption to the team’s training programme and raising concerns over the Cranes’ readiness for their opening fixture.
