The Bayelsa State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a suspected major drug distributor, Chimezie Collins, popularly known as Mezico, and sealed his pharmacy premises in Yenagoa.

In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SN Daniel H. Obah, the suspect, who owns Mezico Pharmacy located along the Mbiam–Yenagoa Road in Kpansia, Yenagoa, was apprehended on March 26, 2026, following sustained intelligence tracking by operatives of the agency.

According to the statement, the suspect was found in possession of 1,900 tablets and caplets of various controlled substances, including Tramadol (200mg and 100mg), Rohypnol (Swinol), Diazepam, and Molly, a synthetic designer drug. Additionally, operatives recovered 150 bottles of Diazepam and pentazocine injections, as well as 77 bottles of codeine syrup, with a combined weight of 12.461 kilograms and an estimated street value of about N3 million.

The Command described Collins as a notorious and unrepentant drug distributor who had been on its watchlist for approximately two years prior to his arrest.

Reacting to the development, the State Commander of NDLEA in Bayelsa, Kanu Sunny Chukwuemeka, commended officers of the Command for their professionalism and resilience in tracking and apprehending the suspect.

He also expressed appreciation to the Chairman/Chief Executive of the agency, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), for providing strategic leadership through an intelligence-driven approach in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking.

Chukwuemeka further acknowledged the support of the Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, for his continued collaboration with the Command in efforts aimed at reducing both the supply and demand for illicit drugs in the state.

The NDLEA boss reiterated his warning to drug dealers and traffickers to desist from the illegal trade or be prepared to face the full weight of the law.

He recalled that the Command had, in August 2025, arrested another major drug distributor in Amassoma as part of its ongoing crackdown on drug-related crimes in the state.
