Senator Douye Diri, the incumbent governor of Bayelsa State is a distinguished personality and an astute politician.
He is a game changer; a champion of true development and the conqueror of the long-standing myth of “difficult terrain” in the oil-rich Niger Delta.
Diri, has been labelled the unsung hero of infrastructural development across the eight Local Government Areas of the state. He is selflessly dedicated to birthing a new Bayelsa of greater opportunities. Indeed, he is a silent achiever making big statements and building landmark projects.
When he came into office in 2020 through the hands of God, critics never gave him a chance. They underrated the Sampou-born former Secondary School teacher, who has continued to dwell in discipline and financial prudence.
The critics easily forgot his rich credentials as a Niger Delta and Ijaw rights activist, and his excellent public service career as the pioneer National Organising Secretary of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) before occupying various leadership positions. Diri, no doubt is a great administrator with rich public service experience garnered as Executive Secretary, Centre for Youth Development, Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Principal Executive Secretary, Deputy Chief of Staff, member of both the House of Representatives and the Nigerian Senate from where he became Governor in 2020.
Diri’s political candour made him a great networker whose goodwill has continued to attract national attention. The recent visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to Bayelsa State, remains a milestone, where the President declared, “I feel at home in Bayelsa.” What an endorsement of sound leadership in Bayelsa State for the past six years. Senator Diri, is not just a politician, he is a strategic Governor leading with tact, humility and a deep sense of responsibility.
Here is a governor who has united all political gladiators in the state under one political party. Bayelsans across spheres of life are unanimous in their declaration that Senator Douye Diri, is a good man, with genuine interest towards the continuous progress of critical infrastructures as well as building legacy projects in the quest to have a united, peaceful and prosperous state.
