The Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, PhD, alongside other stakeholders, has commended the peaceful conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries in the state.
Speaking with newsmen before joining party members to cast her vote at her ward centre, Dr. Eyakenyi said the pragmatic leadership of Governor Umo Eno had united Akwa Ibom into one formidable political movement, making the primaries rancour-free, with no reports of thuggery, voter intimidation, violence, or acrimony.
The Deputy Governor also thanked leaders and stakeholders in Oron for the overwhelming support shown to the current administration, noting that Senator Ekong Sampson, who emerged as the sole candidate in the primaries, received an overwhelming affirmative vote from party members who turned out in large numbers.
She maintained that Oron Federal Constituency, comprising five local government areas, remains firmly aligned with the APC and expressed confidence that the party would emerge victorious in all contests during the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in his ward, the Chairman of Oron Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Okon Enweme, described the APC primaries as peaceful and hitch-free, stating that party faithful mobilized massively to demonstrate support for the APC and Governor Umo Eno.
According to him, the governor has executed several landmark projects in Oron, including the Oron Beach Maritime Infrastructure, model schools, hospitals, and road projects.
Hon. Enweme added that Senator Ekong Sampson had no rival in the contest, stressing that Governor Umo Eno’s “Akwa Ibom United” mantra had been fully embraced by the people.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Urue Offong/Oruko Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Uno Etim Uno, said the people of the federal constituency had resolved to support Senator Sampson and align with Governor Umo Eno, whose administration, he noted, had brought peace, development, and unity to the state.
Other stakeholders who spoke on the conduct of the APC senatorial primaries included the Chairman of Udung Uko Local Government Area, Hon. Godwin Okponung; the Chairman of Okobo Local Government Area, Hon. George Henshaw; former Chairman of Oron Local Government Area, Hon. Engr. Kpahabia Unoh Efretuei; and Chief Esu Amba, a stakeholder from Urue Offong/Oruko, among others.
They commended Governor Umo Eno for his political dexterity in ensuring the peaceful conduct of the primaries across the state, with no reports of violence or electoral malpractice.
Senator Ekong Sampson, who was unopposed, secured affirmative votes across the Oron Federal Constituency, including Mbo Local Government Area, where a large turnout of party supporters was recorded.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Aniekan Bassey also secured their return tickets during the primaries.
