A’Ibom Government to Train Village Youth Presidents on Community Security
The Akwa Ibom State Government has announced plans to train 2,272 Village Youth Presidents across the state to strengthen community security and enhance collaboration with security agencies.
Governor Umo Eno made this known while addressing youths on security-related matters in Uyo. He said the initiative is aimed at building a formidable security architecture across the state and ensuring sustained peace and stability in local communities.
According to the governor, the trained youth leaders will serve as vigilant partners in identifying and reporting security threats within their communities. He noted that their involvement would help bridge security gaps and prevent crises, criminal activities, and unrest.
Governor Eno emphasized that although the youth leaders would be placed on salaries, they must remain disciplined, committed, and dedicated to their responsibilities. He urged them to work closely with traditional rulers and avoid any form of disrespect towards them.
“Royal Fathers are the governors of their various communities. Therefore, you must seek their cooperation and support to achieve the objectives of this programme,” he said.
The governor commended the youths for their steadfastness and willingness to contribute to the success of his administration’s vision of maintaining peace and security across Akwa Ibom State.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Akwa Ibom State chapter, Hon. Uwemedimoh Udoh, praised Governor Eno for his proactive approach to tackling security challenges in the state.
Udoh described the initiative as a welcome development and urged the Village Youth Presidents to take their assignments seriously. He expressed confidence that they would not disappoint their communities and would work diligently to ensure safety in their respective localities.
He noted that Akwa Ibom has remained one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria because of the government’s commitment to security. He added that the state’s peaceful environment continues to attract visitors and investors, stressing that all stakeholders must remain vigilant in addressing emerging security concerns.
“Considering the security challenges facing the country, Akwa Ibom cannot afford to relent in its efforts to maintain peace and security,” Udoh stated.
