Chiefs ,Elders and Community Development Committee(CDC) members under the aegis of Bukuma Council of Chiefs and Elders Forum(AGUM) have suspend it monarch, HRH Stephen Jeremiah(Akee X) Nwamoema of Bukuma Degema Local Government Area over failure to complete his installation rites
In a three page petition made available to newsmen on Thursday and signed by 20 chiefs, elders and CDC members the community alleged that the monarch has displayed high handedness in his leadership style and converted community properties to himself.
The petition was addressed to the Inspector General of Police, Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Traditional Rulers Council, including the two oil multinationals-Nigerian Agip Oil Company and the NLNG among others.
They therefore directed the monarch to stop acting as the king of the community, while warning oil companies and corporate bodies to stop dealing with him.
The Bukuma AGUM in the petition claimed that the monarch failed to present himself at the Okiobulo shrine as enshrined in the customs and tradition of the people, and wondered how he forwarded his name for recognition by the state government.
Further alleging that Akee X has imposed himself on the community, the Bukuma leaders averred that, ‘ Akee family is neither…a royal family in Bukuma. The name Akee is not substitute for any of the federating units, families, compounds of Bukuma.”
According to them, the present day Bukuma is made up of five units that include Kirigbo, Alaka, Agbulogbulo, Anyama Okpunadike.
As it insisted that, ‘ there has never been any other house or family apart from the Omo family which was previously in existence but went into extinction hundreds of years ago through disaster.”
They also condemned the attitude of Akee X as a result of his behavior and utterances which does not befit his office, alleging that he , the monarch does not display interest in the welfare of the people of Bukuma community, “ we believe that you do not have the Bukuma people at heart’, they added.
