Diri family of Sampou announces passage of Pa Abraham Diri
as Bayelsa Governor espresses grief over father's demise
The Dri family of Sampou Community in Kolokuna/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State has announced the sudden demise of their patriarch, Lay Reader Pa Abraham Michael Joseph Diri.
A statement on behalf of the Diri family by Mr. Jothan Diri said the late Pa Abraham died on Sunday February 12 at the age 88 years.
Diri noted that the late patriarch until his demise was a retired Headmaster, a devout Christian, a man of examplary humility and father of the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri.
He added that the Diri family and the entire Sampou Community are consoled by the fact that the late Pa Abraham Diri lived a life worthy of emulation by all.
The statement noted that burial arrangements would be announced in due course.
The statement reads: “With a deep feeling of loss, the Diri Family of Kalama-Owei Wari in Sampou Community in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State announces the sudden passage of our patriarch, Lay Reader Pa Abraham Michael Joseph Diri.
” Pa Abraham Diri departed on Sunday, February 12 at the age of 88 years.
” Pa Diri, a retired Headmaster, a devout Christian and a man of exemplary humility, is father of the Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri.
” The Diri family and indeed the entire Sampou community are consoled that our dear brother and father lived a fulfilled life.
” Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.”
Meanwhile, the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, son of late Pa Abraham Michael Joseph Diri said he received with grief the news of the passage of his beloved father.
Senator Diri in a statement on his Facebook page said his Uncle, Mr. Jothan Diri has on behalf of the Diri family announced the passage of Pa Abraham Michael Joseph Diri.
He described his late father as a disciplinarian, a no nonsense teacher and a community leader who lived an examplary life, adding that his legacies will ever remain green in the memory of those the departed patriarch left behind.
” This evening, I was overcome with grief when the news of the passing on to glory of my beloved father, Lay reader AJM Diri, was broken to me.
” My uncle, Mr. Jothan Diri, has already announced the passing on behalf of our families.
” My father,a disciplinarian, no nonsense teacher and community leader lived an exemplary life. His legacies live on.
Adieu my father,” he added.
