A chieftain and political activist, Comrade Ebi Clarkson, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the group chief executive officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, NNPC, Mr. Mele Kyari, to intervene in agitation for the inclusion of the Isoko Nation in the pipeline surveillance contract.

Clarkson, who made the call in a statement on Thursday, noted that the Niger Delta region is faced with a critical situation involving one Mr. Karo Edor, who had initiated the agitation, adding that it has the potential to spark ethnic crisis between the Ijaws and Isokos.

He expressed deep concern over a recent video circulating on the social media which had revealed that Isoko and Urhobo youths are now armed with guns, issuing threats against anyone employed by Tantita Security.

“Mr. Karo Edor, unwittingly or otherwise, has contributed to the escalation of tensions, and it is imperative that he be held accountable for the potential consequences.

“We can not afford to treat this matter with kid gloves, especially considering the ongoing security challenges in the country, ranging from banditry to kidnapping”, he said.

Clarkson also called on federal government and the NNPCL to thoroughly investigate and address the root cause of the issue, noting that the peace and stability of our nation require swift and decisive action hence the need to prevent any further escalation that could exacerbate existing security challenges.

He appealed for a collaborative effort to ensure that Mr. Karo Edor is called to order, and steps are taken to diffuse the tension among the Isokos, Urhobos, and Ijaw communities, which is crucial to finding a peaceful resolution to the situation.

He re-emphasized the importance of fostering unity among different ethnic groups, especially in the midst of the prevailing security threats, saying that the nation needs solidarity to tackle the broader challenges we face collectively.

Clarkson expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu and Mr. Mele Kyari would prioritize this matter and take decisive steps to prevent any form of ethnic crisis.

He urged other stakeholders in the region to work together to ensure the safety and security of the nation, adding that necessary actions would be taken promptly to address this urgent concern.
