Again, Senator Degi breaks silence on alleged “certificate forgery”
The member representing Bayelsa East Senatorial District and former Deputy Goveenor-elect, Senator Biobarakuma Erimienyo-Degi has again broken his silence on the Supreme Court judgement that upturned the governorship victory of Chief David Lyon of the All Progressives Congress (APC) based on Degi’s faulty credentials.
The Appex court had ruled that the certificates submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by Senator Degi were fraught with irregularities and thereby nullified the APC victory on February 13, 2020, while preparations had been concluded for the swearing in of an unprecedented opposition government in Bayelsa state the following day.
However, Degi, during the inauguration of the APC state Executive Council at the party Secretariat in Yenagoa, the state capital on Saturday, maintained that his certificates were not faulty as claimed by the Supreme Court.
The Senator, representing Nembe, Brass and Ogbia local government areas, asserted that what happened in that court ruling was beyond human imagination.
Degi reiterated that he should not be blamed for the nullification of the APC’s electoral victory, arguing that it was the same certificate that he tendered to INEC for the gubernatorial election that he used during his senatorial polls.
He wondered why same certificate is acceptable to the court which is the reason he is still in the red member till date while same was not acceptable to the court during the governorship legal battle.
“It is not my fault, I have been a politician for a long time and my certificates have not changed.
“I have served as commissioner and have held elective position in Bayelsa before I became a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and I have been using my certificates.
“Nobody knows what would have happened if we had gone to the Creek Haven. We have done it before and we are going to do it again,” he said, adding that his successes and achievements as a Senator should be attributed to the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva who gave him all his support which led to his victory at the polls.
