Akwa Ibom oil producing community development network(AKPCON) has advocate for a clean, sustainable environment for human health and enhancement for development, especially in recent oil spills with attendant contamination of water bodies, affected crops and sea foods.
Needs urgent attention by oil companies
The founder and president General of Akwa Ibom oil producing community development network, Apostle Ufot. A. Phenson Phd made this known in his address during the public presentation/Book Launch in Uyo.
The president said the oil spills has become problem in their environment where the oil companies continue to generate deaf hear over the issues without compensation when those affected experience serious suffering, facing hardship on the indigene caused by the oil spills without any helping hands by the oil companies.
According to him, they will not relent which power of Attorney given to the organization in 2016 made them to among other things represent the voiceless people of Akaw Ibom State in struggle for their socio-economic well being tamped upon by oil companies operating in the state.
He said despite their efforts they have recorded tremendous achievements since it incorporation in 2016 and succeeded in educating ignorance and exploited members of the public on the harm done to their water bodies etc.
The secretary general Niger Delta Youth Council, Comrade Mbat Kingsley and co-coordinator AKIPCON Uyo chapter, Apostle Emmanuel Nse Obot said the Loss of means of livelihood and damages to roof of houses and youth restiveness and insecurity cause suffering, hardship on the people over oil spill which the oil companies are not helping hands to the people.
They said gas flaring which brighten up the environment and water bodies, scaring away wild life and Fishes with attendant economic hardship while indebtedness due to the inability to repair business loans because of the refusal oil companies to pay compensation to elevate the people’s suffering.
