Former Minister of Transportation and former Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has expressed deep concern over the rising wave of terrorist attacks, banditry, and mass kidnappings across the country, accusing the Federal Government of lacking the political will to decisively address the worsening security situation.

In a statement personally signed by Rotimi Amaechi, he said the government has failed to provide adequate protection for its citizens, stressing that the surge in killings and coordinated attacks in different parts of the country is a direct indictment on its capacity to safeguard lives and property.

Amaechi cited recent attacks in Plateau State, the abduction of secondary schoolgirls in Kebbi, the ambush on soldiers in Borno which led to the killing of Brigadier General M. Uba, the attack on a church in Kwara, and the kidnapping of a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Bobbo Paschal, in Kaduna — all occurring within a single week — as clear evidence of an alarming national security breakdown.

He urged the Federal Government to “step up its game,” strengthen military intelligence, improve tactical operations, and demonstrate the leadership expected in times of crisis. According to him, Nigerians have lost confidence due to the government’s habit of issuing “watery statements of condemnation” while failing to act decisively.

Amaechi called on President Bola Tinubu to prioritize security above all else, stating that “jetting out or attending summits when citizens are being killed” does not reflect the character of a responsive leader. He urged the President to probe wrong decisions, re-strategize, and make tough calls to restore stability.

Referencing the security model he implemented in Rivers State, Amaechi said similar results can be achieved nationally, adding that he is ready to offer assistance if requested.

“We did it in Rivers State; it can be done in the country. We are prepared to help if you request help,” the statement added.
