The Bayelsa State House Of Assembly has approved the removal of Hom Alice Allen Tangi, Chairman and Hon. Sufade Jefferson Tobi , Vice Chairman of Sagbama Local Givernment area over gross misconduct.
The speaker of the House Rt Hon Abraham Ingobere who announced this explained that it is in compliance with Section 22 Sub Section 6&7 of the Bayelsa State Administration Law of 2000 .
This followed a petition against the Chairman on issues bothering on non-presentation of the monthly transparent briefing, non-presentation of annual budget before spending and failure to appear before the house.
Rt. Hon Ingobere said the resolution of the House will be communicated to the executive arm of government for necessary action stating that out of 20 members present, 17 voted for the removal.
In another development, the House has approved funds for the payment for Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance(CATA) and the consolidated non-teaching tools allownace(CONTA) as requested by Governor Douye Diri.
Speaking in support of the request, leader of the house Rt. Hon Monday Obobo Obolo stated that dye to the enormous challenges faced in State owned Universities, the approval is necessary in other to enhance productivity of lecturers and non-lecturers.
According to the leader, the approval was negotiated at the federal level and it will help Bayelsa State to be at par with other states to enhance academic system and be among the first few states that have made such provisions.
Rt. Honorable Obolo, further explained that the projected monthly increase across the affected three owned Universities is Five Hundred and Sixty-Four Million, Eight Hundred and Forty-Two Thousand, Six Hundred and Ninety-One Naira, Fifty Eight Kobo adding that this amount will be included in the state’s salary structure and payment will commence from next Month.
Similarly Hon. Living Mitin representing Ekeromor constituency II and his Kolokuma Opokuma counterpart Hon. Wisdom Fafin said CATA will ensure the educational system will not be grounded and it will provide better welfare for lecturers and non-lecturers.
The House has equally approved a new chart of accounts to include newly created ministries, departments and agencies to advance the ASSURED agenda of the prosperity administration this is in compliance with the International Best Practices which will enable transparent tracking of revenue and expenditure, and proper budgeting provisions.
Still on request, the Bayelsa State House of Assembly has approved the Medium Term Expemditure Framework and Fiscal Startegy Paper (MTEF-FSP) spanning through 2027 to 2029.
This approval will pave the way for the preparation of next year’s budget.
Giving an explanation, the Leader of the House Rt. Hon Obolo who said the MTEF-FSP is a fore runner of the 2027 annual budget which will help government view the micro and macro economic indicators like crude oil prices, exchange and inflation rate stressed that the parameters set are achievable.
Also the Deputy Leader Hon. Bernard Kenebai appreciated Governor Douye Diri for always submitting the document in due time adding that the figures are realistic.
Meanwhile, the House has taken first readings of Universal Basic Education Board Amendmet Bill 2026 and Senior Secondary Education Board 2026.
