Bayelsa: Association of Senior Civil Servants Elect New Executive

The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN), Bayelsa State Branch, has re-elected its Chairman, Comrade Julius Laye (PhD), for another four-year term.

The election which took place during the Association’s 5th Quadrennial Delegates’ Conference held on Wednesday 4th of June 2025 at it’s Secretariat building in Yenagoa with the theme “Scaling New Heights,” also returned nine other executive members.

Speaking shortly after the emergence of the new executive, Dr. Igbokwe Chukwuma Igbokwe, Deputy National Secretary and representative of the National President of ASCSN, who supervised the election, commended the maturity and unity displayed throughout the process and urged the new leadership to continue to prioritize the welfare of members and building on the achievements of the past administration.

In a goodwill message, Head of Service, Barrister Biobelemoye Charles-Onyeama, represented by Yela Alagoa, Permanent Secretary, Establishments, Training and Pensions Bureau, lauded the peaceful and orderly conduct of the election.

Also, chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Bayelsa State Council, Comr. Simon Barnabas, advised the new executive to carry all members along in decision-making and seek amicable resolutions to disputes with government authorities before considering industrial action.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Julius Laye expressed deep appreciation to the delegates for the confidence reposed in him and his team, pledging to consolidate on the union’s achievements and intensify efforts in advancing workers’ welfare, and maintain unity within the association.

The new executive members include Allen Inemotimi elected as Vice Chairman), Gordon Funakpo as Vice Chairman Famous Dickson as Treasurer, Tarilaye Nwankwe as Internal Auditor, and Toinpre James Olali, Engr. Nelson Dounana, Mrs.Jean Apreala, Akanga Binmo, and Ben Digha Dambo as Ex-officio members.

The event was attended by Dr. Hamilton Ekeke, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and the Commissioner for information represented by Dr. Sophia Obi.
