Bayelsa Begins Annual School Census, Learners Registration Exercise

The Bayelsa State Ministry of Education has announced the commencement of the 2025/2026 Annual School Census and Learners Registration Exercise across the state’s eight local government areas.

According to a government special announcement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Okene Simon-Peter, the exercise will run from Monday, June 29 to Wednesday, July 1, 2026, beginning at 8:00 a.m. daily.

The ministry directed all principals and head teachers of public schools, as well as proprietors of both approved and unapproved private schools, to participate in the mandatory exercise.

School administrators are expected to report to the designated registration centres nearest to them with an Android phone or laptop, admission registers, attendance registers and other relevant record books for online data capturing. Designated centres have been provided in all eight local government areas, including Brass, Ekeremor, Kolokuma/Opokuma, Nembe, Ogbia, Sagbama, Southern Ijaw and Yenagoa, to facilitate the exercise.

The ministry stressed that participation by all public and private schools in the state is compulsory, noting that the exercise is aimed at generating accurate data for effective educational planning, policy formulation and resource allocation.

The announcement was signed by the Permanent Secretary, Bayelsa State Ministry of Education, Mr. Okene Simon-Peter.
