The Bayelsa State Civil Service Commission has commenced disciplinary proceedings against a number of civil servants over alleged acts of misconduct, reaffirming its commitment to promoting discipline, professionalism and efficiency in the state’s public service.
The Commission said the action followed the submission of a report by a disciplinary panel set up to investigate cases of misconduct involving officers across various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the Bayelsa State Government.
According to a statement signed by the Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Perekiye Buruboyefe John, the panel, after a thorough examination of the evidence before it, found that several officers had violated provisions of the Public Service Rules relating to misconduct.
The statement said the Commission is considering appropriate disciplinary measures against the affected officers in line with the Public Service Rules. The sanctions under consideration include suspension, warning, interdiction, termination and dismissal, depending on the gravity of each offence.
Speaking on the development, John said the disciplinary exercise was not intended solely to punish offenders but to strengthen professionalism, accountability and commitment to duty within the civil service.
He urged all civil servants in the state to strictly adhere to the Public Service Rules and discharge their responsibilities with diligence, integrity and a high sense of responsibility.
The Commission maintained that enforcing discipline remains essential to improving service delivery and maintaining public confidence in the state’s civil service.
