Bayelsa commissioner rescued after Governor’s charge

The Bayelsa State Commissioner for Trade, Industry and Investment, Hon. Federal Otokito has been released by his abductors.

It was gathered that the commissioner was released hours after Governor Douye Diri said his Government will do all within its power to ensure that Hon. Otokito is released unhurt.

The Director General New Media, Mr. Kolawole Oridepe in his Facebook page posted ” Few hours after Gov. Douye Diri’s charges, Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Federal Otokito, rescued.

It would be recalled that Hon. Federal Otokito was said to have been kidnapped by yet to be identified gunmen on Thursday, 20th January, 2022  at about 11:pm in his home town, Otuokpoti in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

But few days after, the kingpin of the kidnappers was said to have called the Paramount Ruler of Otuokpoti community, saying that he would not release the commissioner until his father who has been held by the Police is set free.

Meanwhile, the Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri had in a Thanksgiving Service organised by his kinsmen in Sampou community said his Government would not pay ransom to secure the release of the commissioner, urging the kidnappers to release Otokito unconditionally.

At the time of filling this report, the Bayelsa State Police Command has not released an official statement on the rescue Hon Otokito as details of the commissioner’s release was still sketchy.
