Engr. Kemenanabo who described the media as partner in progress, however advised media practitioners to stick to the ethics of the profession, noting that the media in the recent past have not accurately reported happenings in the state’s power sector.

He gave instances where upon the vandalism of the Transmission Company of Nigeria(TCN’s) towers and cables supplying national grid to the state by suspected vandals and criminal elements in parts of Rivers and Bayelsa States, that the incident was under reported.

Engr. Kemenanabo said: “Rather than do reports that would have communicated the plights of residents and citizens of the state and draw the attention of the Federal Government and TCN, some media practitioners were instead bent on demarketing the state Government and my person when that dastardly act was perpetrated by criminal elements for no obvious reasons”.

While challenging the media on positive reportage, he promised Government’s desire to curb the problem of incessant blackout experiences in the state when the proposed 60mw gas fired power plant finally comes on stream.

He added: “With the coming of the proposed new 60mw gas turbines, the state would be enjoying improved power supply”.

Earlier in his remarks, Chairman of BIPA, Mr Francis Dufugha said the association came for the visit to commend the company under Engr. Kemenanabo’s stewardship for the onerous task and job it has been doing in the state, and seek further partnership.

The BIPA Chairman who is the Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of Niger Delta’s foremost regional tabloid, ‘Niger Delta Herald’ also appealed to the Company’s helmsman on a number of areas the association needed his support.
