In a significant move to enhance infrastructure development and improve the working environment for civil servants, the Bayelsa State Government has officially commenced the construction of a landmark 9-storey Civil Service Secretariat building in Yenagoa.

The groundbreaking ceremony, which marks the beginning of the project, was performed by Nigeria’s Head of the Civil Service, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, in the presence of key government officials and stakeholders.

Speaking shortly after the event, the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure,
ESV Moses Teibowei, emphasized the transformative nature of the project, stating that it is designed to redefine the architectural landscape of the state capital while providing a world-class office complex for civil servants.

According to him, the contract has already received an initial payment of 50 percent, demonstrating the government’s commitment to ensuring timely completion.

Project Timeline and Contractor’s Credibility

The Commissioner further disclosed that the construction of the ultra-modern office complex is expected to be completed within 24 months, assuring the public that the government has engaged a reputable contractor with a proven track record of excellence.

He expressed confidence in the contractor’s ability to deliver the project on schedule, citing their experience in handling similar large-scale infrastructural developments.

“We are confident that this project will be completed within the stipulated timeframe. The contractor’s pedigree speaks for itself, and we have no doubt that they will deliver on their mandate.

This is part of Governor Douye Diri’s administration’s commitment to infrastructural transformation and the provision of a conducive working environment for civil servants in Bayelsa State,” Teibowei stated.

Call for Public Support and Clarification on Project Continuity

The Commissioner also took the opportunity to appeal to Bayelsans to support the initiative and avoid spreading unfounded rumors or making baseless allegations that could hinder progress.

He stressed that such misinformation does not serve the interest of the state and urged citizens to embrace the project as a milestone achievement for the development of Bayelsa.

“Let us rally behind this laudable project and refrain from propagating falsehoods or rumors that serve no one any good.

The government is fully committed to transparency, and we are working diligently to ensure that this project, along with other ongoing projects across the state, is successfully completed,” he remarked.

Commitment to Infrastructure Development in Bayelsa

Highlighting the broader infrastructural agenda of the state government, Teibowei reassured journalists that no project under the current administration will be abandoned.

He reaffirmed the government’s dedication to completing all ongoing projects, noting that strategic planning and financial prudence have been put in place to ensure sustained execution.

“This administration has a track record of delivering quality projects, and we remain resolute in our determination to complete every initiative we have embarked upon. From road construction to bridges, public buildings, and other critical infrastructure, the government is working round the clock to uplift the standard of living for all Bayelsans,” he reiterated.

The groundbreaking of the 9-storey Civil Service Secretariat marks a pivotal moment in Bayelsa’s development trajectory, reflecting the state government’s vision for modernization and enhanced governance.

As construction progresses, residents eagerly anticipate the completion of the project, which is expected to significantly improve the efficiency and working conditions of civil servants in Yenagoa.
