The silence of the Bayelsa State Government over the N5billon support fund for States is giving the people serious concern.
Efforts to speak to the state Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Maxwell Ebibai and the Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Mr. Ayibaina Duba proved abortive as at the time of filing this report.
They didn’t pick-up their phone calls when our correspondent sought for confirmation about the N5billon support fund.
It could be recalled that the National Economic Council (NEC) approved loan and grants to the tune of N5billon to the states to cushion the effect of the hardship as a result of the removal of subsidy from the premium motor spirit popularly called petrol.
Some Bayelsans who spoke to our correspondent expressed disgust over the silence of the government.
Although the state government announced wage awards to workers of the Local Government councils last week but failed to announce relief package for the core civil Servants.
Meanwhile, some angry residents in Yenagoa, the State capital invaded a warehouse where palliatives are stored.
The palliatives consisting of Rice, Beans, Garri, Noodles and other items were carted away by the angry residents who bemoan the non distribution of the palliatives.
It was gathered that the items were meant to be distributed to flood victims of the devastating flood in 2022.
We also gathered that the goods have also gone bad, but the angry residents carted the items dispite
the rotten state of the items.
Niger Delta Herald observed that security agents have taken control of the situation, as the patrol vehicles were mounted at strategic places, to stop the further looting.
