The Bayelsa State Director of New Media for the Pro-Wike political group, NEW Associates, Miss Reigneth Awudumu, has been granted bail, days after her arrest allegedly orchestrated by loyalists of the State Governor, Senator Douye Diri.

The group, while confirming her release, praised Awudumu for her courage and resilience in the face of what it described as political oppression and intimidation.

Sources revealed that Awudumu’s arrest last week may be linked to her involvement in a recent rally organized by the Pro-Wike faction in the state.

In a statement issued by Mr. Kelvin Loveday-Egbo, Media Assistant to the State Convener of NEW Associates and Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Bayelsa State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Barr. George Turnah, the group expressed relief over her release and commended the legal team that secured her freedom.

According to the statement:
“Reigneth Awudumu was unjustly arrested and arraigned before a Yenagoa Magistrate Court based on a petition allegedly engineered by one John Sambo, a domestic aide to Governor Douye Diri.

“In an era where intimidation and repression have become trademarks of the Diri-led Prosperity Administration, Reigneth stood tall, displaying exceptional bravery and commitment to democratic ideals. Her resolve in the face of these pressures is both admirable and inspiring.”

The statement further lauded Chief Magistrate Obiri Baitimizimo for what it called her “bold and just” decision to grant bail under liberal terms.

“The Bayelsa State Judiciary has once again affirmed its independence and integrity by resisting attempts to use the courts for political vendettas. The decision to grant bail highlights the vital role of the judiciary in protecting democratic freedoms,” the group stated.

NEW Associates also commended the legal team, led by Precious Afrikanus Esq., Matthew Opokumo Esq., and Samuel Agbura Esq., for their professionalism and dedication. It added that Barr. George Turnah, MON, will personally lead the defense when the matter returns to court.

As the group celebrates Awudumu’s release, it also used the opportunity to criticize Governor Diri’s administration, urging him to focus on pressing governance issues, especially the growing insecurity in the state.

“It is time to stop wasting public resources on political witch-hunts and instead focus on policies that truly serve the interests of Bayelsans,” the statement concluded.
