As part of preparations for the successful hosting of the 2025 Batch A, Stream II orientation course, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Bayelsa State has held a series of strategic meetings with representatives of collaborating agencies, heads of assignments, and NYSC staff.

Presiding over the meetings, the State Coordinator, Mrs. Okpalifo Obiageli Charity, emphasized strict adherence to all extant laws and policies guiding the orientation programme. She appealed to all heads of units to show leadership, foster teamwork, and maintain synergy with other officials and corps members throughout the course.

Mrs. Okpalifo issued a stern warning against negligence of duty, extortion of corps members, and inappropriate fraternization with participants. She urged camp officials to exhibit self-discipline, professionalism, and emotional intelligence in their daily interactions and responsibilities, stressing that misconduct would not be tolerated.

She also charged all participants to “top their game” and ensure timely information dissemination to their subordinates. She reminded security personnel to report at least two days ahead of the official commencement of the orientation course for proper surveillance and safety arrangements.

In addition, the State Coordinator urged staff to regularly monitor the health of corps members and ensure that sick individuals are given prompt medical attention. She also encouraged officials to visit the camp clinic periodically to check their vitals while in camp.

Speaking during the meeting, the Camp Director, Mr. Rotimi Abiodun, solicited the cooperation of all officials and assured them of an open-door administration. He emphasized the importance of a warm reception for prospective corps members, unity among staff, and heightened security consciousness throughout the exercise.

Meanwhile, it will be recalled that forty-one (41) corps members in Bayelsa were sanctioned last week during the 2024 Batch B, Stream I service year for various acts of misconduct. Of this number, fourteen (14) had their service year extended for violating NYSC codes, while twenty-seven (27) were slated for re-mobilization due to cases of abandonment and non-completion of service.

The NYSC management in the state has reiterated its commitment to discipline, orderliness, and a hitch-free orientation course.
