…Accuses Governor Diri of Secret Anti-Party Activities Against Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election Bid
The Bayelsa State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has challenged the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Warman Ogoriba, to address issues raised by the PDP State Chairman, Hon. Chief Alabh George Turnah, rather than resorting to personal attacks and political distractions.
The party maintained that the allegations raised by Turnah concerning governance, public spending, poverty, insecurity, healthcare, education and infrastructural development in Bayelsa State deserved clear and verifiable answers.
In a statement issued on Sunday, November 1, 2026, and signed by its State Publicity Secretary, Hon. Ikaebimo Mark, the PDP described the administration of Governor Douye Diri as a failure, insisting that the prevailing economic hardship and alleged mismanagement of public resources in the state could no longer be ignored.
The opposition party argued that any citizen who witnessed the level of poverty, hunger, hardship and underdevelopment in the state would have genuine concerns about the performance of the present administration.
According to the PDP, questions surrounding public expenditure, healthcare delivery, education, infrastructure and the management of state assets are matters of public interest that require transparency and accountability.
It therefore urged Ogoriba and the APC-led government to respond with facts and figures instead of attacking those raising concerns about governance.
The PDP also questioned the commitment of Governor Diri and the Bayelsa APC leadership to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election ambition, alleging that the governor was involved in secret anti-party activities working against the interests of the President and the ruling APC.
The party alleged that Diri was paying monthly stipends to thousands of former PDP officials across ward, local government and state levels who belong to the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki faction of the PDP.
It further claimed that members of the group were openly aligned with the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and were mobilising support for the presidential ambition of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.
The opposition party also challenged Ogoriba to provide evidence of his public support for President Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
It questioned why the APC chairman had allegedly failed to issue public statements, make media appearances or openly canvass support for Tinubu’s re-election, except during the South-South zonal rally of the PBAT Door-to-Door campaign held in Yenagoa.
The PDP, speaking through the Bayelsa State Rainbow Coalition led by Turnah, challenged Ogoriba to produce video recordings or published newspaper statements demonstrating his commitment to the President’s 2027 re-election project.
The party subsequently called on Bayelsans to critically assess the performance, records and capacity of candidates seeking elective positions in the 2027 general elections.
It urged voters to reject candidates it described as incompetent, particularly those contesting for seats in the National Assembly and Bayelsa State House of Assembly under the APC platform.
The PDP maintained that the questions raised by Turnah remained unanswered, stressing that personal attacks against political opponents would not erase legitimate concerns about governance and accountability in the state.
“Attacking the messenger will not make them disappear,” the party declared.
