Bayelsa Police Command writes NJC over allege misconduct of Bayelsa Judge

Authorities of the Bayelsa State Police Command has declared readiness to approach the National Judicial Council (NJC) over the alleged misconduct of a State High Court Judge, Ogbia Division, Justice S.W. Amaduobogha.

The Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Alonyenu Francis Idu, who confirmed the development during a chat with newsmen at the Police Command headquarters, said the accused High Court Judge allegedly violated his ‘
oat by setting free a notorious kidnapper who was arraigned with evidence and confessional statements and co-kidnappers convicted by another court judge.

CP Alonyenu Francis Idu said the command is consulting with senior officers of the command and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun to file a petition before the National Judicial Council and submit the case file of the notorious kidnapper identified as Endurance Enaware, an indigene of Azuzuama community in Southern Ijaw Local Government area of the State.

He added that the released kidnapper was also involved in the abduction of the wife of popular Igbo businessman, Obaino and a medical Doctor, Alex Ogirigade. He was also involved in the killing of an NDLEA and Police officers in separate armed robbery incidents.

He said despite the alleged action of the accused Judge, the State Command is alerting the general public to treat the freed kidnapper as a wanton murderer and wanted by the Police.

The Police Commissioner also noted that the action of the State High Court Judge provoked the State Governor, Senator Douye Diri to anger,”he may be treated as accessory to kidnapping.The same kidnapper have gone to kill a businessman in Ekeki area of the State capital.”

He said “the police have worked hard to earn the confidence and respect of the people of Bayelsa State. But the act of this Judge has left a bitter taste in our mouth.Ordinarily, we are not supposed to complain, but this is too much. Enough is Enough”

“The evidences are before the judge. If there is optic illusion that derailed his judgement, he should take a second look at the evidence.”

He also dismissed the claims that such acts is noticeable among other State Judges, insisting that he would not take the action of a single judge to cast aspersion on others,” I will not because of a judge cast aspersions. It is like when a leopard enter the den of lions. The leopard is spotted, has longer tails and it is not gallant. I think this Judge is different kind of judge. And I call on other judges to rein him in.”

He also threatened that the Bayelsa Police Command would have taken action against the eering Judge by arresting him,” but I was restrained by some coordinating officers of the state not to arrest him. Nobody is above the law. We have judges who have truthfully rules on a detailed arrest and prosecution of violent criminals.And they earn our respect.”

The Police Commissioner also confirmed that the State Governor,Senator Douye Diri is also worried by the action of the State Judge and have directed the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Hon. Biryani Dambo (SAN) to take action.

He said “the Police should be considered as citizens of Nigeria before they are appointed as guardian of social order. And as we regulate social order,when cobwebs are weaved to obstruct us, we have virtual means to work ”

On the achievements of the State Police Command under his watch, the Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Alonyenu Francis Idu, announced that the command has adopted technology to tackle crime ans criminally with records of high profile arrest of armed robbers and kidnappers.

The Police boss noted that the command has placed the state on virtual policing, ” we have placed Bayelsa under electronic surveillance and gathering virtual evidences.

“We have recorded volumes of assorted cameras and drones monitoring the street. And we have also curtailed the excesses of Polic Personnel.”
