Bayelsa State Goverment Concludes One Month Leadership Training For Student

The Bayelsa State Government has charged students in the state to aspire for excellence and stand out with flying colours in their end programme examination to make the state proud and contribute to the overall development of the nation.

Gov. Douye Diri gave this charge during the closing of the 6TH EDITION OF MENTORSHIP AND LEADER TRAINING PROGRAMME for Senior Secondary School Students (SSS-3) at the Ijaw National Academy in Kaiama.

Students numbering over 900 hundred drawn from all the 12 model schools in all the Local Government Area’s in the State have been in the training for the past 30 days.

Topics on leadership, mentorship, academic excellence, sports, creative writing, etiquette, health and well being took centre stage during the one month programme to groom the students for excellence. The program was organised by the Ministry of Education with support from the Bayelsa State Education Development Trust Fund.

Gov. Diri who was represented by his Special Adviser on Secondary Education, Elder Adulphus Forcados on arrival inspected a guard of honour make up of students as he reiterate the prosperity government stand on using education to equip youths to be leaders of tomorrow.

The State Education Commissioner, Dr. Gentle Emelah in his address lauded the Bayelsa State Education Development Trust Fund and other partners for sustaining the programme till it’s 6th edition. He added that Bayelsa dream to become the best education State in the country is achievable.

Permanent Secretary of the education ministry, Dr. Christopher Ewrudjakpo,his Post primary schools board counterpart, Chief Simon Peter Okene admonished students across the State to be studious, discipline and work hard to stand out as successful youths and leaders in the future.

Awards and cash gifts were presented to the first, second and third best students in all subjects and also to the overall Best student who attends Ijaw National Academy, Miss Diete-Spiff who also came out tops in 5 other subjects.well behaved students in camp, excellence in sports and other categories.The students spiced the day with music, dance, poetry, spoken words and a variety of performance to make the event memorable.

The closing ceremony was attended by the SUBEB-Chairman,Chief Ebi Mathew Sunny-Goli.The Chairman, Bayelsa State Scholarship Board, Queen Josephine Ezonbodor Torru,
Technical Adviser to the Governor on Higher Education, Dr Isaiah Stephen,Director General, Bayelsa State Directorate of Education Inspection, Policy Service and Special Education, Madam Biboye Ogola.Bayelsa State Director of Student Welfare, Deaconess Patricia Akpe.
