Bayelsa United records first away victory, resuscitates NPFL hopes

Robert Mizo 83 minutes goal was the highlight of matchday 21 encounter between host Abia Comets and Aiteo Cup Champions Bayelsa United in group B2 of the southern conference in the Nigeria National League NNL,decided at the Umuahia Township Stadium.

Striker Mizo gave the Aiteo Cup Champions lead on 83 minutes from Emmanuel Ambakederemo’s cross few minutes after the centre referee had disallowed Ambakederemo goal.

Earlier, Abia Comets on 56 minutes would have drawn the first blood when United defence line failed to clear Victor Ogba low cross in what could be described as Abia Comets best chance of the game.

After an impressive first half time, technical adviser of Bayelsa United made two changes with the introduction of Emmanuel Ambakederemo for Timitimi Ineikade, midfielder Favour Martins in place of Isreal Consul, who on two occasion tested Abia Comets goalkeeper Kelvin Salami.

However, Abia Comets would have leveled terms before the final whistle but Bayelsa United shot stopper Ogunga Kelvin heroic save ensured that the Prosperity Boys return to Yenagoa with smiles.

The result leaves the Yenagoa based side on 31 two points adrift of group leaders, Crown Fc of Ogbomoso and will next host Apex Krane on Sunday at the Samson Siasia Stadium.

An elated technical adviser of Bayelsa United Diepreye Teibowei in a post match interview commends the lads for their doggedness and show of dexterity, saying that the victory was soul lifting.

Teibowei explained that the victory has enabled his side to close the gap between his team and their main contenders, Crown Fc, pointing out that the match referees displayed uprightness in discharging their duties.

Stand in Captain,Gabriel Biriduba thanked the almighty God for the victory, stressing that he has already targeted Abia Comets as a potential venue to earn it’s first away victory.

Biriduba noted that the team was leaving nothing to chance in their quest to return to the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL at the end of the current season.

Hero of the day Robert Mizo asserted that he was in cloud nine scoring a crucial goal against one of NNL stubborn side Abia Comets, calling on Bayelsans to continue to pray for the success of the team.
