A prominent Bayelsa youth leader, Hon. Robert Desmond, has congratulated Rear Admiral N. M. Madugu on his appointment as the new Commander of the Joint Task Force codenamed Operation Delta Safe (OPDS).

Operation Delta Safe was inaugurated in 2016 with a mandate to rid the Niger Delta region of militant activities, oil theft, and other forms of economic sabotage.

Desmond, in a goodwill message released to journalists on Tuesday, expressed confidence in Rear Admiral Madugu’s ability to discharge his duties creditably.

He noted that the high-ranking military official has the needed courage, knowledge and strategy to live up to the expectations of his exalted office.

“I have had the rare privilege of interacting and working close with Rear Admiral Madugu over the years, and I can confidently say that he is a man of high integrity, discipline and competence.

“Rear Admiral Madugu’s wealth of experience in naval operations and his understanding of the volatile Niger Delta region make him the ideal military official to lead OPDS at this point in time.

“Therefore, I have no doubt that he will discharge his duties with utmost professionalism and dedication, as well as the fear of God,” Desmond said.

Desmond who is popularly called D New Face also expressed the belief that the new OPDS commander will build on the successes of his predecessors and take the OPDS to greater heights.

“While we look forward to working with Rear Admiral Madugu and supporting him in his new role, we are confident that he will continue to keep our region safe and secure as mandated by the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government,” he added.
