The factional youth president of Nembe Youth Federation in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Ayerite Moses has raised alarm over an alleged destruction of his property at his residence in Nembe-Bassambiri, Nembe Local Government Area.

Moses in a press briefing alleged that some youths who are loyalists of a pipeline surveillance contractor, Dr Kojo Sam were shielded by men of the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) to carry out the act.

He also accused the SWAT team stationed in the community of ransacking and destroying properties in his house.

Moses noted that the arson upon which the Inspector- General Police, Kayode Egbetokun deployed a SWAT team to the community is now being perpetrated with impunity by those who chased them out of the community.

“Now they are committing the same arson and destroying my properties. Moreso, the houses of Barr Amunaboye Clement, Hon. Edward Irigha-Brigidi, Chief James Naworio, Chief Elemah Ebitimi, Chief Debo Tonyemiete and others have been vandalised and looted. I want the whole world to know the evil they are perpetrating in the town,” Moses said.

He alleged that the SWAT team is behind illegal bunkering, stressing that the houses vandalised were those owned by people who have moved against illegal bunkering in the community.

Moses pleaded with the IGP to call the SWAT team to order and urged him and other relevant security agencies to investigate the incident and arrest the perpetrators.

He wondered why youths would be allowed to destroy properties of law-abiding citizens in a community that the Police are occupying to ensure peace.

However, a spokesman for Kojo Sam, Theophilus Iruo denied the allegation describing it as a false alarm.

According to him the house of Ayerite Moses was never ransacked nor his properties destroyed.

He insisted that the allegations of compromise levelled against the SWAT team were unfounded because the SWAT has been instrumental to the peace being enjoyed by the community.

Also, an officer with the SWAT team who pleaded anonymity said the Police cannot be part of the crisis in the community.

According to him the Police were deployed to restore peace in the community and the peace would be sustained regardless of attempts to scuttle it by undesirable elements.
