The former governor -elect of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 Governorship elections in Bayslsa state, Chief David Lyon , may defect to the Labour Party ( LP ) or the All Progressives Grand Alliance ( APGA) if he does not secure the party’s ticket for the November governorship elections this year .
According to impeccable sources close the Ologbobiri born politician, if he is not given the right of first refusal by the ruling party he and his teaming supporters may be forced to defect to the Labour party or APGA.
As at the time of filing this report , the screening exercise for aspirants to the number one position in Bayelsa state is ongoing at the party’s national secretariat, Abuja Friday , while the primary elections comes up April 14 this year . However our sources disclosed that Lyon and his team might leave if the he does not secure the ticket .
The sources also disclosed that Lyon is in talks with officials of the LP and APGA incase if he fails to get the nod of party to fly it’s flag in November.
The aspirants who have bought forms for the Governorship race in the APC for the November 11 elections in Bayelsa state include Prof. Ongoebi Etebu Maureen , Chief Joshua Machaiva, David Lyon, Barr. Festus Daumiebi , Chief Mrs. Ogbomade Isikima Johnson and Chief Timipre Marlin Sylva. It could be recalled that Chief Lyon contested the 2019 governorship elections and won but was thrown out by the Suorrme Court as a result of variant of names in the certificates of his Deputy , Chief Degi Eremieyo who is a current senator at the red chambers . Meanwhile the schedule of activities and timetable for the three governorship elections showed that the screening of aspirants is slated for March 24 to 26; names of cleared aspirants will be published on Tuesday, March 28; while the screening appeal will take place on Wednesday, March 29.
The governorship primaries of the three states are billed to hold on April 14.
Also, Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri is the sole Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the state’s offseason governorship election scheduled to hold on November 11.
In a similar development, Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shuaibu, who announced Governor Diri as sole aspirant, said the governor’s documents had been scrutinised and were found to be in order.
Shuaibu, who is the chairman of the screening committee for the Bayelsa State Governorship Election, announced this yesterday after the screening at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja. Efforts to hear from Chief Lyon on his moves to dump the APC met a brick wall as contacts on his mobile phone was busied. However a Tex message sent to him was yet to be responded to as at the time of this report .
