BYSIEC postpones LG polls indefinitely
The Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission has postponed the Local Government Elections billed for May 14, 2022 indefinitely.
A statement signed by the Chairman of the Commission Hon Ball Ayarede said the postponement was a result of the clash of schedule of the timetable with activities of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)
The statement reads :
“The Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission (BYSIEC), wish to inform the general public that the Local Government Council Elections scheduled to hold on Saturday, 14th May, 2022 across the Eight (8) Local Government Areas in the State, will still hold, but no longer hold on the 14th May, 2022 that was earlier announced however a new date will be communicated to the general public.
“However, in view of the apparent conflict of the date of the said Elections with the time table of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), wherein all registered Political Parties are mandated to conduct its primary elections in line with Section 91 (1) of the Bayelsa State Local Government Law, 2000 (as amended), to ensure orderliness.
“To this end, the Commission, BYSIEC will notify the general public, particularly Stakeholders of the new date for the conduct of the Local Government Council Elections, as other activities so far accomplished by Political Parties in line with the earlier time table and guidelines issued by the Commission remain valid.”
It further stated that the “Commission deeply regret all inconveniences arising from this new development.
“Please, accept the esteemed best regard of the Commission.*
