The High Patriarch Overseer of the Spiritual Kingdom Church of Christ, Obong Marshall Edidem Bassey, JP, has called on Christians across the South-South geopolitical zone to fervently pray for Senate President Godswill Akpabio amid allegations of sexual harassment leveled against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Speaking to journalists at his country home in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Bassey described the allegations as an unfortunate attempt to tarnish Akpabio’s image, integrity, and political career. He dismissed the accusations as baseless and likened them to biblical instances where righteous individuals faced conspiracies aimed at their downfall.
Drawing references from the Bible, Bassey cited the story of Haman’s plot against Mordecai and the Jewish people, emphasizing that prayers ultimately led to their deliverance. He also referenced the biblical account of King Sennacherib of Assyria, who underestimated Prophet Hezekiah, and the battle between David and Goliath, asserting that divine intervention secured victory in both cases.
According to Bassey, the same God who delivered the Israelites from Egyptian bondage and led them to victory will stand in defense of Senator Akpabio. He urged the Christian faithful to remain steadfast in prayer, believing that God would fight on behalf of the Senate President, the South-South region, and the less privileged.
The cleric further criticized those calling for Akpabio’s resignation over the allegations, dismissing them as “mere jokers.” He argued that, instead of focusing on baseless controversies, the Senate President and his colleagues should be allowed to concentrate on legislative duties aimed at improving the country for its citizens.
Bassey concluded by reaffirming his belief that divine justice would prevail and that Akpabio would overcome the challenges before him.
