As the scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) other wise known as petrol persist, commuters in Bayelsa State are calling on the Government to intervene because of the increase in the cost of transportation,  goods and services..

Niger Delta Herald metro checks reveal that a journey which hitherto goes for N50.00 is now N100.00 per drop, while a trip to Amasoma which was charged N300.00 is now N500.00.

Similarly, a trip to Otuoke in Ogbia Local Government which was N400.00 now goes for between N600.00 to N800.00.

In a similar vein, the cost of food prices have also  gone up in the various markets visited by our roving correspondents within Yenagoa Metropolis.

Our correspondent gathered that filling station owners in the state are hoarding the product to cause artificial scarcity in order to sell above the government’s approved pump price.

Further checks revealed that the marketers agreed that those who sell today will not sell the next day and have also agreed on a benchmark price of N350.00 per litre to control the market.

Some Bayelsans who spoke to our correspondents lamented the hardship they are facing as a result of the rise in the prices of goods and transportation.

A Bayelsan, Timi Alafawari who bear his mind on the current hardship in Yenagoa, lamented over the soaring cost of goods and services, adding that he spends as much as N800.00 as transport fare within Yenagoa.

Alafawari urged the Bayelsa State Government to do something about the escalating priices of goods and services as well as transport fare, adding that government should introduce price control to checkmated business owners and transporters from are bent on exploiting the masses.

He particularly asked government to call all filling station owners to order and stop inflicting untold hardship on the poor Bayelsans, and wondered why is it that it is only in Bayelsa that fuel is sold as high as N400.00 per litre
