Cult clash claims 2 lives in Port Harcourt
There was pandemonium at the Elechi Beach axis of Mile 1 Diobu, Port Harcourt, Rivers State as two factions of a deadly cult gang, Deygbam, engaged in a shootout, which reportedly claimed two lives.
It was gathered that the two factions, D12 and BS houses of Deygbam, have been fighting over territorial control due to illegal bunkering activities in the area.
Niger Delta Herald gathered that the clash between D12 and BS houses of Deygbam cult group, which was the third within six months, started recording casualties last Saturday. Sources in the area said there were fierce gunshots among the two factions, which lasted for several hours.
The incident forced business owners to hurriedly lock their shops and fled the area for fear of uncertainties, as shooting intensified. The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the clash between the factions of Deygbam cult gang to newsmen. She said it was a supremacy battle between suspected D12 and BS Deygbam cult groups.
The police image maker disclosed that there was no death, adding that normalcy had returned to the area as two police patrol vans of the Divisional Police Headquarters, Mile 1 Diobu, Port Harcourt, were deployed to the area on the orders of the Commissioner of Police, Effiong Okon.
