The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Seriake Dickson, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would be voted out of office in the 2027 general elections if the elections are conducted in a free, fair and credible manner.
Dickson, a former governor of Bayelsa State, stated this while speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, where he argued that the current administration had failed to meet the expectations and aspirations of many Nigerians.
According to him, the growing dissatisfaction with the APC-led Federal Government would ultimately translate into massive votes against the ruling party at the polls.
“As leader of the NDC, and as a Nigerian who knows the feelings and yearnings of Nigerians, and who also knows that their aspirations have not been met, we believe that the APC government, the APC as a party, not just the President, will be defeated massively,” he said.
The former governor maintained that Nigerians were increasingly demanding better governance, improved economic conditions and greater accountability from those in power.
Dickson stressed that the opposition was focused on presenting a credible alternative capable of addressing the country’s economic and security challenges, expressing optimism that voters would embrace political change in 2027.
He, however, emphasized that the outcome of the election would depend largely on the credibility of the electoral process, insisting that a level playing field and adherence to democratic principles were essential for the will of the people to prevail.
His comments come amid growing political realignments and preparations by political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition groups seeking to build stronger coalitions to challenge the ruling APC.
The APC has repeatedly defended the performance of the Tinubu administration, maintaining that ongoing economic reforms are necessary to reposition the country’s economy and would yield long-term benefits despite the current hardships experienced by many Nigerians.
