Fresh BLACKOUT in Bayelsa : Four Towers Collapse Along Owerri-Ahoada 132kV Line
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the collapse of four electricity transmission towers along the Owerri-Ahoada 132kV Double Circuit line due to vandalism, plunging parts of Rivers and the entire Bayelsa State into darkness.
The affected towers, numbered T171 to T174, fell at approximately 6:23 PM on Tuesday, March 11, following an attempted trial reclosure that failed, prompting a subsequent patrol that revealed the destruction.
According to TCN, investigations confirmed that the collapse was caused by vandalism, which has severely disrupted power supply to the Ahoada, Gbarain, and Yenagoa 132kV transmission substations.
A team of engineers, led by the General Manager of the Port Harcourt Region, Engr. Emmanuel Apka, has already assessed the site to determine the extent of the damage. The company is working to mobilize personnel and materials for urgent repairs to restore electricity to the affected areas.
In a statement, TCN strongly condemned the act of vandalism, warning that it continues to undermine efforts to build a stable and efficient power transmission grid. The company also appealed to host communities to assist in the fight against the destruction of critical electricity infrastructure.
Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities around power installations.
