Gunmen allegedly kill APC Chieftain in Bayelsa, as Police declare manhunt for perpetrators

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State, Chief Sunny Frank – Oputu was reportedly killed by unknown gunmen at his Baybridge road residence in Yenagoa.

Details of his death remains sketchy as at the time of filing in this report.

Frank Oputu is a strong supporter of the Senator Heineken Lokpobiri whose faction is in court challenging the Congresses held in the state last November.

He hails from Igbemotoru in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state, he is said to be in his early fifties .

He was a former Chairman of the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP) in the state.

His sudden death has sent shock to residents of the state especially among the APC supporters.

While confirming the incident the Police Public Relations Officer Asinim Butwat said the the Commissioner of Police Ben Okolo has

Charged Operatives to intensifies efforts to identify and arrest the perpetrators.

Re-assures members of the public on the command’s resolved at ensuring the culprits are arrested and brought to book.

According to him “26 April 2022, at about 2300 hours, gunmen scaled the fence and gained access to the residence of Hon. Frank Oputu located at No. 1 Jonah Road Bay- Bridge, Kpansia, fired several shots at the Honourable through the window of his bedroom and fatally injured him.

“The injured victim was rushed to Federal Medical Center, Yenagoa, where he was confirmed dead.The corpse has been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.

“The Commissioner of Police Bayelsa State Command CP Ben Nebolisa Okolo fdc, has charged officers to intensifies efforts to identify and arrest the perpetrators. He further re-assures members of the public on the Command’s resolved at ensuring the culprits are arrested and brought to book.

“The Command urged members of the public to remain calm. Investigation is ongoing.”
