The member representing Nembe Constituency II in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Chief Edward Irigha-Brigidi, has expressed excitement over the establishment of the Federal University of Agriculture Bassambiri, FUAB.

The lawmaker, on behalf of his constituents, thanked President Bola Tinubu and former President Muhammadu Buhari for the approval of the university sited at Bassambiri in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa state.

Brigidi also hailed the former petroleum minister, Chief Timipre Sylva, former senator, Chief B.W Degi-Eremienyo,
former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Israel Sunny-Goli, and other stakeholders “for their individual critical roles and collaborative efforts in establishing the Federal University of Agricultural in Bassambiri, Bayelsa
State.”

Hon. Brigidi expressed profound appreciation for the contributions of these leaders, highlighting the positive impact the university will have on the local economy and the broader agricultural landscape in Nigeria.

In a statement released to journalists, Brigidi said that: “I am very happy about the establishment of such a relevant institution in Opu-Nembe Kingdom, precisely Bassambiri.

“This marks a turning point for our community. It is a demonstration of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu, the groundwork laid by former President Buhari.

“I am certain that the take-off of the university will create a variety of jobs for local residents, boost businesses,
improve infrastructure, enhance the community’s sense of identity and pride, as well as produce more competent and self-reliant graduates who will contribute immensely to the country’s quest of attaining food security, in line with the
sustainable development goals.

“Moreso, the presence of the institution will enable our community and the people of Bayelsa State harvest positive outcomes as the youths will be engaged in one business or the other.

I have no doubt that FUAB will attract both local and international partnerships, foster innovation in sustainable agricultural practices, and amplify economic growth.”

The lawmaker also thanked Governor Douye Diri for providing the enabling environment for the successful establishment of the university, adding that his commitment to education and peaceful approach to governance is attracting development to the State.

Brigidi further appreciated the Bayelsa state helmsman for his “ongoing efforts in bringing about lasting peace and harmony among the stakeholders of the community.

“I appeal that the governor also provides some financial assistance to complement the federal government for the initial take-off of the university.”

He equally urged the people and various interest groups of Bassambiri to eschew acrimony and embrace the spirit of interdependence towards fully reaping the educational, economic and social benefits that the University promises to
bring.

Hon. Brigidi congratulated the governing council of the FUAB, chaired by Sen. Kojo Brambaifa, and the pioneer Vice Chancellor, Prof. Reginald Inodu Keremah for their well-deserved appointments.

The lawmaker implored them to work with the rest of the management team of the University to craft strategies, formulate policies and implement programmes to
sustainably position it as a center of excellence in agricultural education and research in Nigeria.

“The governing council should focus on sustainable and innovative agriculture that typically reflects the evolving needs of the
agricultural sector, advancements in technology, and global challenges such as climate change and food security,” Brigidi said.
