IYC Calls for Immediate Sack of FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, from President Bola Tinubu’s Cabinet
The Central Zone of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), after an emergency congress held at the Ijaw House in Yenagoa, has called for the immediate removal of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
The group condemned Wike’s alleged unguarded statements against the Ijaw people, made during a national television appearance and in Abalama, Rivers State.

Chairman of the IYC Central Zone, Comr. Peres Ineifie, who presided over the congress, described the call for Wike’s sack as necessary to counter what he termed as false historical narratives presented by the former two-term governor of Rivers State.
“How can a sitting cabinet member from the Niger Delta region say that we are the minority of minorities in Ijaw land? Wike needs to be educated about our history. Our ancestors fought for Nigeria, and our fathers were instrumental in the creation of Rivers State. Where was he when Chief Dappa Piriye led coalitions across Africa and Nigeria? We do not wish to engage in unnecessary debates with him, but we are making it clear to President Tinubu—either sack Wike or risk losing the support of our people,” Ineifie stated.
As part of its resolutions, the congress announced plans to stage a peaceful two-kilometer protest against what it called “false statements” by Wike, emphasizing that the Ijaw ethnic group is the fourth largest in Nigeria, with significant populations in Edo, Ondo, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Delta, Rivers, and Bayelsa states.
The congress, attended by Ijaw youths from all clans and two chapters from Rivers State, also incorporated a prayer session, where attendees sought divine intervention for Wike’s removal.
Prominent IYC national officials present at the event included Comr. Victor-Gow Ayibatari (National Financial Secretary), Comr. Aris Fekorogha (Director of Mobilization), Comr. Bob Emmanuel-Abiye (Deputy Director of Mobilization), Comr. Bob Collins Igbeta (Legal Adviser), Comr. Ebi Timilaemi (Immediate Past Speaker, IYC Mobile Parliament), and Comr. Amiebi Turner, among others.
Other stakeholders in attendance included Dr. Tokpo Coronation (APC chieftain), Dr. Inebaraton Preye (MD/CEO of Newzmarshal Nig. Ltd), and various clan chairmen and youth leaders from across the state.
