The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri, has reiterated the critical role of the downstream sector in Africa’s oil and gas industry, stressing the need for efficiency, transparency, and value creation to maximize its impact on the people.
He made this statement while receiving the organizers of the OTL African Downstream Week, led by Mrs. Joyce Akabogu.
During their meeting, discussions centered on the strategic importance of the downstream sector and its contribution to the continent’s energy landscape.
Commending the OTL team for their commitment to fostering collaboration, innovation, and knowledge-sharing within the industry, Lokpobiri noted that while the upstream sector remains crucial, it is in the downstream sector that the direct benefits of the oil and gas industry are most felt by the public.
“Their efforts in driving value within the sector are commendable. Sustainable growth in Africa’s oil and gas industry hinges on an efficient and transparent downstream sector,” he stated.
The OTL African Downstream Week is a leading platform that brings together key stakeholders in Africa’s downstream sector to discuss challenges, innovations, and investment opportunities.
Sen. Lokpobiri reaffirmed the government’s commitment to policies that enhance the sector’s efficiency, ensuring broad-based benefits for the economy and the people.
