Medals Rain For Eight LGA’S, as Bayelsa State Sports Festival Enters Day Four

Medals have continued to rain in the camps of the various Local Government Areas after day three of the Bayelsa State Sports Festival tagged Access Bank Prosperity Unity Games in different sports.

The Access Bank Prosperity Unity Games kicked off Sunday with Bayelsa State governor Senator Douye Diri declaring the spectacle open at the Samson Siasia Stadium amidst a brief ceremony.

Brass LGA yesterday sent a clear statement of intent by winning two gold, one silver in canoeing on day one of the canoeing event with Yenagoa LGA and Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA silver and bronze in each of those events.

The breakdown of the medals in weightlifting indicates that Nembe LGA has three gold, one Silver, Ekeremor LGA, four silver three bronze, Brass one silver, two bronze, Kolokumo/Opokumo three gold, three silver four bronze, Southern Ijaw three gold, four silver, two bronze, Ogbia three gold, two silver, four bronze, Yenagoa LGA three gold.

Kolga in Karate have secured two gold, one silver and three bronze also settling for bronze and silver Judo in male 60kg and 73kg, while Yenagoa got a gold in judo,two gold in para swimming and two silver.

Akpule Funlayefa of Ekeremor in swimming won gold in the men’s 200 metres freestyle but could not replicate that in the 200 metres freestyle women’s as Tamaraseri Yale Ere settled for Silver same in the 50 meters backstroke men.

Bekes, Lala , Stephen and Eniyekebi increased the medal tally for Ekeremor in the 4 x100 metres freestyle relay men, Forcados Pere Ere -Tamaraseri Yale Ere ,Obiriki Ekpotimianemene,Happiness Kenneth also recorded victories in the 4 x100m freestyle relay women amounting to 3 Gold medal four Silver for Ekeremor in swimming yesterday.

Kolga wrestling team won one gold, one silver in the wrestling event yesterday, Kolga are currently taking on Southern Ijaw on boxing as at the time of filing this report at the Samson Siasia Stadium.

In the meantime, events have commenced in various centers apart from canoeing, where action would continue this evening at the Ox-bow lake pavilion.
