NAPTIP, Bayelsa Surveyor-General, Others Back AWAGBV’s Niger Delta Summit on Human Trafficking, Gender-Based Violence
Yenagoa – The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), the office of the Surveyor-General of Bayelsa State, and other key stakeholders have thrown their weight behind the upcoming Niger Delta Summit against Human Trafficking and Gender-Based Violence, organized by the Association of Women Against Gender-Based Violence (AWAGBV).
The summit, scheduled for July 6th to 8th, 2025, is themed “Raising Teenage Ambassadors Against Human Traffickers and Violators of Domestic Violence.” It aims to strengthen regional responses to trafficking, abuse, and gender-based violence through education, detection, and empowerment.
During advocacy visits led by AWAGBV National President, Dr. Dise Ogbise Goddy-Harry, the Association received assurances of support from NAPTIP State Commander, Mrs. Abieyuwa Ikhidero, Bayelsa’s Surveyor-General, Surv. Margaret Geku, and Hon. Mrs. Iwowari Gold, former Chairperson of the State Assembly Committee on Gender Matters and current Commissioner in the Bayelsa Local Government Service Commission.
Mrs. Gold accepted her appointment as a Patron of AWAGBV and pledged to champion the group’s school sensitization campaigns. She expressed deep commitment to the cause, emphasizing the urgency of educating young people on the dangers of human trafficking and domestic abuse.
At the NAPTIP State Command, Commander Ikhidero praised AWAGBV’s bold initiative and affirmed the agency’s readiness to partner with credible organizations working to protect the vulnerable.
Similarly, Surveyor-General Geku commended the coalition for its bold steps in a male-dominated society. She expressed her willingness to join AWAGBV during its school sensitization engagements, describing the campaign as “a worthy and noble cause.”
Dr. Ogbise, alongside a delegation including Her Royal Majesty Queen Diongoli, Rev. Roseline Egbesu, National Assistant Secretary Kafilat Lawal-Lasisi, Treasurer Mrs. Tari Youdubagha, Ms. Stephanie, Lady Stella Doumu, and Mrs. Perez Osain, unveiled AWAGBV’s five-year strategic plan focused on education, advocacy, and empowerment for women and girls across the Niger Delta.
The summit is expected to be a major milestone in the region’s collective fight against human trafficking and gender-based violence.
