In a significant boost to personnel welfare and operational efficiency, the Naval Outpost Onitsha on Wednesday 22 July 26 marked the official commissioning of its newly constructed Duty Cabin and remoded Quarter Guard Stand. The project aligns seamlessly with the Strategic Directives of the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, and the overarching leadership direction of the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC)Central Naval Command Rear Admiral Suleiman Ibrahim .
Speaking at the event, the representative of the Flag Officer Commanding, Commodore Tanko Lengaya extended the FOC’s warm greetings and reaffirmed the Command Headquarters’ commitment to providing continuous support to the unit. Emphasizing the importance of impact-driven leadership, he encouraged officers of the Outpost to learn from their Commanding Officer,, particularly in cultivating a culture of leaving long-lasting legacies wherever they are deployed.
Addressing the practical benefits of the project, Commodore Legaya noted that the duty cabin will alleviate duty-related stress and resolve long-standing rest-space challenges for personnel and the Duty Ifficer during off-duty hours.
In his remarks, the Commanding Officer, Commander Kabir Yusuf, expressed deep appreciation to the CNS for providing the leadership, enabling environment, and inspiration for officers to innovate and serve effectively. He also extended sincere thanks to the FOC for his constant encouragement, guidance, and mentorship.
Highlighting the spirit of community engagement, Commander Yusuf acknowledged the host community’s invaluable contributions to the successful completion of the project, describing their support as a hallmark of robust Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC).
The ceremony reached its climax with the cutting of the commissioning ribbon and the unveiling of the commemorative plaque, marking a new chapter in welfare and infrastructure development for the Outpost.
